New EP now available http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/08/New-EP-now-available

Our new EP is now available in CD form from Darla in the US and Norman Records, amongst others, for Europe, you can also download it here (www.emusic.com).

"This is the third, and last, of a trilogy of E.P.s the Clientele have recorded for Acuarela. They have always used the Acuarela E.P.s as a way to stretch out between albums, to create a through-the-looking-glass version of the band that shadows the better-known history of their albums. 'Ariadne' experimented with drones and minimalism, 'The Lost Weekend' stretched the foggy sound of their debut to epic proportions. In contrast "That Night, a Forest Grew' is the most commercial and -shockingly- danceable thing they've ever recorded. Part Bacharach, part Television, part Orange Juice, the E.P. shares the pristine clarity, light and shade of 'God Save the Clientele', but adds a new element of summer pop perfection. This is The Clientele as a hazily remembered 1970s cartoon series, all distanced off-key colours; imaginary summer hits, radio waves beamed in from a dream-discotheque."

"Dark and slightly sinister, the title track envelopes the protagonist and his negotiation of unfamiliar settings both likely real (a London fog) and possibly imagined (the forest of the title), locating sides of suburban England that the group had yet to articulate. All in all, it's another charming and fully satisfying release from one of the world's more unsung and quietly wonderful bands."  - Pitchforkmedia.com

Country Music for Keith Girdler http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/08/Country-Music-for-Keith-Girdler

"Breathe in Now", a previously unheard outtake from Strange Geometry, is now available on the Country Music for Keith Girdler CD, a tribute to the late Keith Girdler of Blueboy. This is a great compilation, also featuring Louis Philippe, Club 8, Biff Bang Pow, The Times, and the Trembling Blue Stars as well as many others. All profits go to the hospice in Hove where Keith spent his last days.

In other news, apologies to anyone who missed us at Expo Zaragoza; an earlier accident involving a sound technician caused our performance there to be cancelled. It was moved at the last minute to a bar in town, but apologies if you were there and didn't get the details in time, there was very little we could do.

Still waiting for details on the new EP release date. It will be posted when we are told more (or indeed, anything).

That night, a Boris grew http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/07/That-night-a-Boris-grew Important: to anyone planning to come to our show at Zaragoza, the Expo 2008 website says we are playing on the 8th; this is true, but in fact it's at 00:30 on the morning of the 8th, i.e. pretty much on the night of the 7th. Does that make sense? hope so

Hello folks, some bits and pieces of summer news to cover the wait while we chisel away at the song structures bound for the next Clientele long player; and not least, while we defy the fascist nanny oligarch so-called mayor of so-called London Boris Johnson's ban on drinking on public transport.

'That Night A Forest Grew EP' should be out and about this week on Acuarela Records of Spain! catch it while you can, as it will probably be a limited run; among other places, you can order it in the US here and in the UK/Europe here

Details of a London show and our exciting walk-on part in Expo Zaragoza 2008 in the tour dates section.

And thank you to the organisers and all the people we met at the Rip It Up, SONAR, and Tanned Tin Festivals by the way - all very different (types of hangover) but a lot of fun. It's beautiful when the entire audience sings along with you word for word, in Swedish accents!

New EP and Spanish Tour http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/05/New-EP-and-Spanish-Tour There is an all-new Clientele E.P. coming up, the first recordings we've made since God Save the Clientele. It will be released by Acuarela Records of Madrid (the third E.P. we've done with them and the last part of a trilogy). We've always used our Acuarela E.P.s to stretch out a little bit between albums and create a kind of a through-the-looking glass version of the Clientele, and this will be no exception, but this time with the catchiest songs we've ever recorded. The title of the E.P. is "That night a Forest Grew". See shows section for a supporting Spanish tour, including a visit to Primavera Sound.

Bookshop Casanova, our US summer single for 2007, looks set to get a summer 2008 release for the UK and Europe. It will be digital only I'm afraid but you can download exclusive track Girl From Somewhere and our cover of Television's "The Fire" as part of the package. There is also a nice graphic of an Owl sculpture from New Mexico as the cover, which is currently behind glass in the spooky Victorian-style Pitt-Rivers Museum in Oxford. Clientele forum opens http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/03/Clientele-forum-opens The first ever Clientele forum is now open; it’s run by people independent of the band, but band members will probably be flitting in and out to answer any questions about guitars, chords, songs, drums, the good old days, the future, tour stories, florentine renaissance medallions, slap bass techniques, mel’s pesto recipes, or anything else that you may want to know. You can also talk among yourselves, as long as you do so standing to attention, with a look of groveling servitude on your faces. In any case, it’s here. www.theclienteleforum.co.uk

Nothing will come of nothing http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/02/Nothing-will-come-of-nothing Wed, 06 Feb 2008 07:03:00 -0500 Happy New Year http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2008/01/Happy-New-Year Thanks to everyone who came out to the Luminaire show on the 8th January. It was enormously fun, not least because the Luminaire is so relaxing and cool to play in and the sound is so good. It's surprising to find a London venue which genuinely seems to put care and consideration into the experience of playing and watching live music.

Don't worry I'm sure we'll be back playing in a concrete-walled tinnitus-hole with simian-browed soundmen, sticky floors and unspeakable toilets soon. Oh yeah, and aside from that we are playing the Buffalo Bar in Highbury on the 25th January.

Love (and kisses)

xx

Happy Christmas http://theclientele.co.uk/news/2007/12/Happy-Christmas Apparently I'm not allowed to say "Xmas" cos it doesn't mean anything, although I thought the X could signify a tilting upside-down cross such as was used to martyr several of the early saints, anyway there goes my big mouth again. The Broken Family Band are top fellows and King Tut's treated us like princes. It was also good to conclude, over several visits to the Carling Academies that disfigure the British landscape, once and for all, beyond question: Carling beer makes you a. tired b. fat and c. not drunk. Not sober exactly, but definitely not drunk, it seems to take you somewhere new and rather dark.

Meanwhile you can watch us play stuff on the radio here at the 893 the Current, which was a lot of fun to do; and get interviewed, spliced and cut up, but still show huge insomniac under-eye bags here at the Yahoo Music studios in Santa Monica.

The UK release of God Save the Clientele in September, will be accompanied by a 7" single version of "Bookshop Casanova", with two unreleased tracks, one of them a cover of "The Fire" by Television. We even made a video, so don't mess around folks, buy it when it comes out, or we'll be in nighmarish levels of debt. Just kidding. More news soon, take care.
